Human Centred Design

Usability in the built environment

Taking a human-centred approach to the design of the built environment helps make sure major infrastructure like train stations and other public areas meet the needs of all users, are easy to maintain, and support all operational demands.

This helps deliver a facility that is easy and pleasant to use, and which is resilient to changing operational priorities.

Our work in the design of the built environment involves:

  • Designing equipment spaces to support reliable operation and maintenance
  • Consideration of security and operational demands in the design of public spaces
  • Identification of wayfinding, accessibility and other passenger needs within multi-modal transport systems
  • Supporting safe and efficient construction, upgrade and expansion activities
  • Applying good practice human-centred design standards and guidance

We focus on enabling user, operational, and maintenance requirements to best enable human activities.
